2015 FWSA January 21, Meeting, Pass-a-Grill, SPYC

The FWSA January 21, 2015 meeting was held at St. Petersburg Yacht Club at Pass-a-Grill.  Fifteen Bitter Ends attended.  Clubs reports were given with Bitter Ends being first.  First Delegate Miriam Staveley made a short introduction and the Rappers chimed in.  Audience cheered and laughed a lot.  Bitter Ends was declared winner later in the day, click link below  to view the video.
The Re-gifting store to benefit the Young Woman Sailor of the Year Award fund was open as well as the FWSA Ship's Store.  Bitter Ends did their share to support these Stores.
Main business was to vote on a rephrasing of the by-laws requirements for a person to be an approved substitute delegate.  Making it official the current practice of only requiring written notice prior to the meeting start.
The Speaker was Jennifer French, Silver Medalist in the 2012 Paralympics for Sailing a Scud-18.  As a result of a skiing accident she became a quadriplegic.  Became interested in sailing and partnered with a blind man to win the silver medal.  She is also wired with hardware to stimulate her muscles thus enabling her to sit-up and even stand and walk with a walker.  Her bionics are experimental but hold a lot of hope for the future for paralyzed people.
